#109 – Climate Change

The League of Nerds

Ho Ho Ho, it is Christmas but Nerds care not for this time of joy and goodwill, no! It may be the season for snow and winter cheer but outside it is unseasonably warm! Is it just weather or Climate Change? Will Santa’s Grotto soon be a floating workshop? Myles and James are joined by Chris, a researcher into Climate Change, to talk over the process of denying man-made Climate Change and what is Climate Change any way?

  1. Hi, I usually watch all your videos and am usually impressed by your research but youve really disapointed me with your reference to the consensus study. Please go have a look the method used in these studies and youll notice that there are some serious flaws in this.

  2. Hi Myles,

I’m a great fan of your work and, as a fairly level-headed guy who has a basic understanding of science and the way it works, I find myself agreeing with pretty much everything you post.

However, I’m also a sinner! Because a little over ten years ago I suddenly got interested enough in Climate Science to have a look at it and – shock, horror! – after doing a bit of research, I found myself becoming more and more sceptical, and I remain so to this day.

I saw this podcast and got very excited! “Finally,” I thought, “Myles can show me where I’m going wrong!”

    Sadly, not!

Your podcast was totally bereft of any evidence whatsoever to support the hypothesis. In fact, the only paper cited in the whole podcast was the appallingly bad Cook, et al 97% Concensus paper. (And as an aside, some would say that the consensus is only ever mentioned in science when there is a lack of evidence. It is ironic, therefore, that the only evidence you cite is that of a consensus! Hang your head in shame, Myles!)

Can I urge you to have another go at it? (I want to belive!) But this time concentrating on the empirical evidence that demonstrates that mankind’s greenhouse gas emissions have had, are having and will have a *significant* effect on global temperatures (no one disputes that we’re have some effect – but how much?) and that those effects will be, overall, harmful to us in the future.

    I look forward to it.
